[Verse 1] I've been a lot of places in my lifetime Sung a lot of songs And I've made some bad rhymes Acted out my life in stages With ten thousand people watching But now we're alone And I am singing my song for you [Verse 2] I know your image of me It’s what I hope to be If I treated you unkindly Darling, can't you see? There's no one more important to me So darling, won’t you please see through me? ‘Cause now we're alone And I am singing my song for you [Prechorus 1] You taught me precious secrets Of a truth, withholding nothing You came out in front, but I was hiding Now I'm so much better And if my words don't come together Just listen to the melody For my love is in there hiding [Chorus 1] I love you in a place Where there's no space or time Love you all my life You are a friend of mine And when my life is over Remember when we were together We were alone And I was singing my song for you [Prechorus 2] You taught me precious secrets Of a truth, withholding nothing You came out in front, but I was hiding Now I'm so much better And if my words don't come together Just listen to the melody For my love is in there hiding [Chorus 2] I love you in a place Where there's no space or time Love you all my life You are a friend of mine And when my life is over Remember when we were together We were alone And I was singing my song for you We were alone And I was singing my song for you

[Verse1] In a little house with a broken yard We walk out to our machines, to our dreams And this is the part where I push you away This is the part [Chorus 1] It was a simple life, never needing any insight It was a terrible fight, never felt the same again [Verse 2] In this little house, we stood We cried out, pounding on our thighs And this is the part where I push you away This is the part where I push you away This is the part where I push you Up against the wall [Chorus 2] It was a simple life, never needing any insight It was a terrible fight, never felt the same again [Chorus 3] It was a simple life [Verse 3] In a little room on a bed meant for pleasure We lie still A little sigh passes through your lips Making waves, a razor in my lungs [Chorus 3] It was a simple life, never needing any insight It was a terrible fight, never felt the same again [Chorus 4] (Part I) It was a simple life, never needing any insight It was a terrible fight, never felt the same again Took all I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop, not stop All I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop, not stop (Part II) Please, won’t you please stop. Please, all this, too much Please, won’t you please stop. Please, please won’t you please. All this is too much Please won’t you please, won’t you please. Please won’t you please stop Please, won’t you please. All this is too much All I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop. Stop All I had to not stop breathing All I had to not stop. Stop

[Verse 1] Like water on rock They wear you away, my dear These words that I speak To you, they stay They can’t be taken back So they wear you away [Verse 2] Like fire inside Chasing you out, my love Flames howling like wolves In you, they shout They send you to the door Chasing you out [Verse 3] Like water on rock They wear you away These words that I speak They stay These words that I speak They stay These words that I speak They stay

[Verse 1] Clouds share the sphere with blue sky Metal wings cut through white As they kiss the air You’re landing on the red earth Ruined roads they reach forth Across the open plains Your mind grows wide As your eyes open [Verse 2] Time’s too relaxed to move So it sits with you on the front porch Magic fills the air Words spoken in unknown tongues Still you’re sure you know what They mean to communicate Your mind grows wide As your eyes open [Chorus 1] You came here to this point on the earth To be close to the sun You can feel it’s warmth wrap around you Sleep and become one It gives you the secret of it all But when you woke up you forgot [Verse 3] Clouds share the sphere with blue sky Metal wings cut through white As they kiss the air You’re landing in your own life Days turn quickly to night Time waits for no man Your mind grows wide As your eyes open [Chorus 2] You came here to this point on the earth To be close to the sun You can feel it’s warmth wrap around you Sleep and become one It gives you the secret of it all But when you woke up you forgot It gives you the secret of it all But when you woke up you forgot But when you woke up you forgot But when you woke up you forgot

[Verse 1] Fists covered in dust Tell me what it takes To lead a clean life To leave a small town (Iridescent dusk) To make sense To make more (Stirring up a war) (Cars all rolling backwards from Kansas City) [Chorus] Before you were You were born Tulips pushed Snow from earth Took it upon myself To walk away Walk away Walk away [Verse 2] Took a silver train Hooking through the field Sat in the rear car Pressed my head (What is a good life led?) On the glass Staring out (Tell me what it takes) There all night watching black [Chorus 2] Before you were You were born Went to see The ugly world Took it upon myself To walk away Walk away Walk away [Bridge] For twenty odd seconds I loved the air Mingled my breath with a Hudson Gull Near the dawn, the light arched sky Unlike most, the city didn’t beat me The city didn’t beat me But, I came back But, I came back

[Verse 1] I woke up in the vortex again, again Same bed, but ten years have passed Everything, everything, everything My heart drying in my hands [Prechorus 1] I went to the doctor and the doctor said, “relax” I went to the post office, but I can’t send that The little blonde girl sitting on my street waving a small starred flag she said, [Chorus 1] The way I see it, as long as you’re here The way I see it, as long as you’re here You might as well have a good time [Verse 2] I want to fall in love with everyone I meet I want to kiss that girl, that girl, that man But I’ve been married and set for a long time My heart drying in my hands [Prechorus 2] My therapist says for money she can fix that My friends all say it’s a phase, it’ll pass The little blonde girl asks me why I’m so worried, she says, [Chorus 2] The way I see it, as long as you’re here The way I see it, as long as you’re here You might as well have a good time [Chorus 3] The way I see it, as long as you’re here The way I see it, as long as you’re here The way I see it, as long as you’re here You might as well have a good time

about

“Our project, Physical Kids, is essentially our friendship manifest – we’ve been meeting once a week for over 10 years to talk about life, compose, and just hang out. Our songs are extensions of our conversations: what we’re reading, thinking, how we’re feeling. The music is a natural result of what feels like a simple (but, for us, profound) friendship and practice — an artistry in the quotidian, or magic in the everyday. We still meet once a week and prefer to write in the room together because it yields a type of music that neither of us would make on our own — during the pandemic, we met in Prospect Park.”

In a Little House is about a failed relationship that still manages to hold on to the timelessness of the love that initially formed it. The album was recorded at Restoration Sound in Bushwick, mixed by Restoration Sounds’s owner Lorenzo Wolff, and mastered by Charles van Kirk. To capture the intimacy of our live-performance style, each song was recorded in a single take in the same room. Afterwards, guest artists layered their overdubs. The opening song of the album is a cover of Leon Russell’s original, ‘A Song for You.’ The remaining original tracks feature Brent Arnold on cello, vocalist Lacy Rose, Colin Fullerton on guitar, and guest vocalists Melody Allegra Berger, Mare Berger, and J.D. Mollison. Lorenzo Wolff plays the shruti box at the end of ‘The Way I See It.’
